CIVIL WAR NURSES

In my research for the Irish Fest I have been researching the role of the female nurse during the Civil War. I have found some interesting facts, disproved a few myths I have aquired along the way concerning the role of the female nurse at the Field Hospital.

I would recommend the pamplet "WHITE ROSES". This pamplet gives biographical sketches of twenty or so brave women of the period who served as nurses on both sides of the conflict.

Thanks to the Google Book Project I have been able to downlaod and read several of those brave ladies books that detailed their experiences during the war in Field Hospitals, the forward aide station on the battlefield and on the Hospital Ships of the Union.

the Muddy River Battalion Medical yahoo user group. Look for the folder Civil War Nurses. Download and read these two books at your leisure. They are facsinating.
