Fortescue

The USSC representatives will not be able to attend Fortescue this year. This is a lose since they add so much to the atmosphere. Also it doesn't appear that the local sutler, James Country, will be at the event as well. Better thake everything you need as there will be no resupply. Get candles blankets etc. and take them with you.

Pawnee City Reenactment

It looks like the boys had a good time last weekend. About 40 MIB and Nebraska Union reenactors had a good time last weekend at Pawnee City, NB. The Union Camp, to the south and east of the Museum, was a nice place to camp.

Looks like the Rounders game was fun.

Sadness

With sadness I read that Capt Paddy (Curtis) and his two sons have resigned from the MIB. His reasons are indeed valid as many have felt the same way and have also left.

I'll miss Paddy, his voice and his humor. We are of the same age and fought in SE Asia but not together.

He spoke of comradeship that is a quality younger men, who haven't been in the service, do not understand.

I'll miss you Paddy.

Non Profit status

Great news the MIB has received non profit status from the State of Missouri and can now file for 5013c status with the IRS.

When approved I can now take my mileage for MIB events and my dues etc... off my income tax as charitable deductions. I'll be sure to get receipts now from the Unit.

NEARLY DEPARTED

Last night on "Coast to Coast" the book "Nearly Departed" was discussed. One segment dealt with the Pipestone County Museum in Pipestone Minnesota. It's a nice museum and its haunted! I've saw the spirit that was discussed last night last August while Skip and I were at the Civil War Days at the National Monument. I would recommend the Book! The spirit is an old man solid in appearance and inquisitive.

Here's tthe link to the Museum

Rainy Wednesday

Therapy today at 3:00 p.m. I know its rainning because the knees are stiff.

Set up my retirement with Social Security yesterday.

Tuesday Morning

I haven't heard anything about the events at Lamoni Iowa so far.

Seven years ago the town gave the participants a ratio of period food. Home made bread, potatoes and the like. That was the year of the great rains. I left before the rains came but ran into the worst rain storm I had ever been in just north of Kearney, Missouri.

I hope to hear something about the event today.

Lot's of Things

Since my last entry lot's of things have happened.

I've had two major operations and one replaced my right knee. I haven't worked since January 25, 2009 and I'm looking forward to my first full paycheck on the 15th.

I have booked a few medical demos for the fall.

Pig hunting is on the horizon over the Christmas break.

Margaret has retired from the Kansas City School System and has begun a new career in the Catholic School System. She is glad to be out of that system and back in the Catholic System.

Irish Fest 2009 has come and gone. Record crowds were reported at all three major festivals in KC this weekend. 95,000 had paid by Saturday afternoon at IRISH FEST, Santa-Cali-Gon and the Renaissance Festivals reported the best openning day crowds in ten years.

Hopefully our units game made money at KCIF. I hope they had period toys the boys could play with and the drums playing to have people come to the booth.

I know the Gaelic Football men and the AOH gather a record number of signatures. I didn't see the flag again. It would have helped to have it on display but that's par for the course with this flag and our Unit. It could have gotten wet and it woulod have been a problem transporting it each day.
