Snake Saturday Parade 07

I want to thank each and everyone of you who gave up their morning, on a purely beautiful late winter day, to support the unit, and to participate in the 2007 Snake Saturday Parade.
The weather couldn't have been better, crisp and cool in the morning, no wind, clear sky, a huge crowd to see men of the 7th and 30th proudly march behind the Bright Starry Banner of our country and our beautiful Battle Flag.
It just sent chills up my spine to see the flags blowing as we marched. Kudos to little Adain, son of Color Sgt. McAllister, for carrying the drum for the unit and to Cole, son of "Bullit" and to the daughter of a man from the 8th Kansas who came over to march with us. These younsters, of men in the unit, volunteered to carry our banner proudly in front of the men as we marched.
Lot's of questions to the men were fielded as we waited for the parade to form up. Good "PR" to the public.
During the route, I believe a TV station or the Parade Committee videoagrapher recorded the flags. Lot's of nice comments from the spectators as we marched were heard.
As the unit marched by BOB Reeder, and the Heart and Shamrock Float, Mr. Reeder began to sing "HONEST PAT MURPHY": a fitting song for an Irish Civil War organization. It was touching, to hear the sounds of that tune, my thoughts were drawn to my friend Terry Price and the black armbands we wear wearing to honor our fallen friend.
Our thanks to Thersea Sample for making the armbands and taking time to help the men put them on their uniforms. Huzzah for Thersea, Thersea did this even though she had responsibilities to the Heart and Shamrock Club that mornming. She thought of our men first and the memory of Terry Price.
Several of us went to the pancake breakfast at the Fire Station. Brogan Melarkey, the resident Leprechaun, came in with the Channel 9 News photographer, I sure those of us in line were on the morning Channel 9 News... Of interest, the photographer asked if we were the unit at Mahaffie last year with the flag and the Priest who conducted the MASS. He remembered our unit through the Flag and the Sunday morning activities. Needless to say I gave him one of my cards with the units information on it.
Well, we didn't come in first this year, but we won $200.00 dollars again. That's money in the bank boys. My thanks to each one of you who were able to attend first activity of our unit this year and to help win the money for the unit to use.
Again, kudos to Thersea Sample.
To those of you who couldn't make it, due to work or school, I know you were thinking of us yesterday.
Now, its on to Brownsville, Nebraska Territory.
Remember to sew on a black arm band, in memory of Terry Price.
Most sincerely,
Steward Bair
