Wornall Home and Museum Ghost Vigil
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I can't begin to name all who attended this event but I'm sure Kace
has a list.
This was another plus event for the MIB. Thanks to those who
attended the event. Your attendance has certainly cemented The Irish
Brigades reputation with the Wornall House Museum. and with other
Historical and Civil War related Museums and Society Directors in the
Kansas City area.
The crowds around the campfire were great and attentive to the "Civil
War Ghost Stories." Kace, Gary and DeCee really had the spectators
in the palms of their hands. It was great to sit back and watch the
faces of those seated around the fire hour after hour each nite. The
crowds were truly interested and mesmerized by the stories presented
by our "story weavers" and the music provided by Sean, your 2nd
Hospital Steward, our fifer, and our drummer boy.
Kudos, in my opinion, go out to all who supported this listed event
from our event calendar. I want to especially thank Tic Tack, Tic
was on site the entire time and watched the fire and camp throughout
Friday nite. I can't forget Kace for his organizational skills and
for setting the camp Friday morning.
Saturday's activities began at 10:00 a.m. with a special tour group
from the scouting community and the Daughters of the Grand Army of
the Republic. Surgeon JohnJoe Reyes, our 1st Asst Surgeon for the
battalion and several refugee ladies from the Wornall House and
Shawnee Indian Mission volunteers and docent staff conducted a
medical seminar and demonstration on Civil War Medicine. This
activity was repeated at 2:00 p.m. at the request Kandice from the
Wornall House. Several members of the DGAR returned for the 2:00 p.m.
program as well as a few actual nurses and two medical doctors, one
surgeon and a retired microbiologist. The surgical nurse, and
surgeon discussed the current amputation methods with the medical
staff after the demonstration. They were especially interested in
the period medical equipment. A period microscope and case will be
donated to the medical department as will several other period
medical items as a result of the second medical program on
Saturday. The DGAR has volunteered to make hospital clothing fro
the hospital impression. I believe the DGAR ladies will be a very
helpful asset to the MIB and
Battalion.
Saturday nite, just as Friday nite, saw a steady stream of visitors
to the Wornall House. Around 5:00 p.m. each nite the Ghost Vigil
Team arrived and sat with us. I believe a great working relationship
with the MIB and Ghost Vigil has developed.
So many individuals shared the campfire each hour that we needed more
chairs on several occasions. Large numbers of visitors stood in the
rain as the Ghost Stories were spun Saturday nite. In October, when
the MIB returns to the Wornall Home, be one of the encampment
participants. You'll have the time of your life.
Yes, several of the Wornall House apparitions were active during this
event. Sean saw the Frock coated Union Solider, the small girls were
seen in the lower parlor by two separate groups and individuals
during the Friday nite tours. Individuals clothing was tugged at in
the upper bedroom as Bullit described in April.
For those of you who were in a few of the Civil War Movies shot in
and around Kansas City a few of your fellow cast members asked about
you. Especially about our KISSING COL. Gee Col Crofutt that
artillery boy was really cute!!! lol
Thanks again to all who stopped by the Wornall Home and helped with
this event.
