Gentlemen
Should the Muddy River Battalion join the 1st federal Division as a Member Battalion?
That is the question before us right now. The General and his staff are very eager to have us join, and I have received several e-mails since Westport asking about us possibly joining up. They even hit me up in person, at the High Tide Gettysburg event.
Basicaly gentlemen, we did so well at the Stand of Colors Westport event, that the Division wants us to join, and become a member Battalion. This is a good thing and should be considered as an honor. The 1st federal Division is a national organization.
They recently changed there membership requirements to allow for Independent Battalions to join as voting members, and also lowered the required numbers from 150 Rifle Battalions to 60 Rifle Battalions. This has been done, with Battalions like the Muddy River in mind.
DIVISION MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS - If we was to join, then we would have to field at least 60 members of our Battalion at least 1 Division event a year. 60 members being defined as all rank and file, including our medical. If we was to do this, then our Battalion would maintain its voting rights as a member Battalion.
If we fail to meet these numbers, then after a period of time, we might not be considered an active organization and would not be able to vote.
PRO'S IN JOINING DIVISION 1). - Give us a home at National events or any event in which the 1st federal Division is in charge of.
2). - We would be a member unit at any such events, and NOT considered as Independent others.
3). - Being a member units gives us more leway while at events. If per say, were a company short of fielding a Battalion, then as a member unit, we are more likely to have an Independent other company assigned to us to help field the Battalion, then if we were an independent other. member units of the Division are naturaly given priority.
4). - The Division wont let the Frontier mess with us.
5). - We would belong to a prestigious organization with a long and honored history. To be a member unit of such a fine organizagtion is an honor in its self.
6). - Why Not?
7). - Being a member of the 1st federal Division would naturaly help promote our Muddy River Battalion as an organization.
DOWN SIDE IN JOINING DIVISION1). - Our ability to field a Battalion once a year at National Events might be limited, since at the moment, our Battalion dose not seem to travel well (outside of our local Region). Thus, we may not keep our vote for very long.
WHATS YOUR VOTE?OK - so I have listed a few thoughts above on the pros and cons of this. I am sure there some other items I forgot or have not thought of, but these are the main ones. Never the less, I need for each member unit to go ahead and figure this out amongst each of your companies, and then to cast a Vote. I will give it at least 30 days, so every unit can talk it over at there meetings. But be sure to let me know what your units Vote is, so I can get with First Federal Division and let them know.
Cheers and Huzzah
