Bleeding Kansas Programs
Men,
Here are some interesting and free programs related to pre-civil war times in BLEEDING KANSAS that will be presented in the Kansas City/Lawrence area in the next two months. This is the 150th Anniversary of the of the Lecompton Kansas Debate.
The following programs will be held at CONSTITUTION HALL STATE HISTORIC SITE at 319 Elmore, Lecompton, Kansas on Sunday's afternoons at 2:00 p.m.. Lecompton Kansas is just outside of Lawrence.
The programs are:
January 27th - "Lecompton: A National Obsession" by Professor Craig Miner, Wichita State University Department of History.
February 3rd- "John Calhoun: Surveyor General and Lecompton President," a first person portrayal by Steven Brosemer, GeoTech, Inc. Land Surveyors.
February 10th - "THEIR LAST EVENING: Reverend Thomas and Sarah Johnson," a first-person portrayal by George and Diane Bernheimer, reenactors and living history educators. THE MIB knows George and Diane as they are the US Sanitrary Commission Representatives, who frequent many many events the MIB attends. It would be nice to have several of us, in period civilian and/or Victorian clothing, attend this presentation and support these fine individuals. The Bernheimer's have always supported the MIB in the field and our good friends of the Organization.
February 17th - "Sara Robinson Attends the Lecompton Ball", a first-person portrayal and period clothing display by Lesa Brose, Molly Ledeboer, and Dianna Welsh, living history educators and period dressmakers.
February 24th - "Danger at My Very Door: Betsy Hoole's Southern View of Kansas Territory," a first-person portrayal by Michelle Martin, Discovering History, LLC
